In March 2020, Gladman Developments proposed a development of 90 dwellings in Shenton Lane Market Bosworth. They asked initially only for community feedback. A formal planning application was registered with the council. The council received 561 objections from residents and visitors. Leicestershire County Council Highways also raised strong objections, due to the the extra traffic generated on Shenton Lane and Warwick Lane that would exacerbate an already very difficult traffic problem.
Inspite of this, in July 2021, Gladman Developments have resubmitted an application. There is nothing in the new documents to show that the concerns of the community or LCC Highways have been satisfactorily addressed. This applications still in flight.
In June 2022, Gladman submitted a parallel application to build a further 125 houses on Shenton Lane, on the land beyond the allotments.
Gladman have a history of this type of predatory behaviour and care not for our housing needs or landscape but for financial gain.
We believe that the local infrastructure is incapable of supporting development in this particular area, especially the access roads through the centre of town, which is a conservation area. Market Bosworth is an area of significant historical interest and has a rich heritage. We have a Neighbourhood Plan but it is important to note that Hinckley and Bosworth have lost control of their 5 year land supply. That makes us vulnerable and applications like this can slip through on this technicality if we are not careful.
‘Market Bosworth says No to Gladman’ do not oppose housing development in the town, and indeed sites have already been identified for c180 new homes in the HBDC Proposed Neighbourhood Plan. We understand the need for new housing, but it must be sensitive and sustainable. The proposed Gladman development does not fall into this category.

We really feel these latest amendments are designed to wear us down and confuse a community who have objected already but must continue to do so yet again.
